kilimanjaro

We are excited to announce Kilimanjaro, launching August 3rd, 2024. Kilimanjaro is an exhibition seeking to present stunning vignettes of the world around us, whether they appear in natural landscapes, cityscapes, or even interiors. The featured artists demonstrate experimentation in color, materiality, and scale in scenes that range from the monumental (like the titular Kilimanjaro), to the mundane (like a quiet living room).

Despite being composed of only local artists, the work in this exhibition demonstrates the reimagining of global art styles and traditions. Lauren Gordon’s “Once in a Lifetime” plays with perspective and environment similar to Van Gogh’s “Bedroom in Arles.” Likewise, there are hints of Chinese Shanshui ink paintings in the simplicity and vastness of Rebekah Evans’ “September.” Many more of these artists employ French “en plein air” techniques in capturing realistic natural landscapes with their emphasis on tranquility and serenity.

It is often said that places are excellent retainers of memory, so as visitors to this exhibition, you are invited to connect your own experiences and relationships to these contemporary pieces that creatively reinterpret one of the oldest traditions in art history: the landscape.
